Southern California IgnitionReduction Program

(SCIRP)

The Southern California Ignition Reduction Program (SCIRP) is a public-private partnership of governmental agencies and their partners working together to reduce human caused ignitions, primarily along roadsides. SCIRP crosses jurisdictional boundaries to systematically plan, prioritize, fund, and implement projects that use vegetation treatments and physical barriers along roadways to prevent wildfires.

Addressing Key Needs
Approximately 95% of wildfires in Southern California are human caused. In an area that is home to millions, wildfires threaten homes, lives, and ecosystems. Two-thirds of these fires start along roadways. Human-caused roadside ignitions are preventable.

The SCIRP Vision
In the future, Southern California fires will be limited to those started by humans for beneficial purposes or caused by lightning, and our roadways will be lined by ignition resistant materials and native plants.

Aligning Work Across Jurisdictions
The SCIRP partnership is focused on supporting the development and implementation of a sustainable portfolio of prioritized projects to address wildland fire transmissions primarily from roadways. Through partnership, we can work together to help reduce wildfire risk and prevent the devastating effects of wildfire.
